About Me
Maxine Chandler – Leaded Glass Artwork and Window Design
Maxine Chandler exhibits her leaded glass artwork at the Cygnet Gallery in Shaftesbury, Dorset. With more than 15 years experience working with glass, Maxine produces all her work from her dedicated studio in North Dorset.
Maxine moved to North Dorset from Oxfordshire. Her work incorporates inspiration from the beautiful scenery and wildlife of Dorset and Somerset. Maxine is an active member of the local community and is involved in a number of groups including the local art club.
Maxines’ work encompasses fine hand painted stained glass, leaded art work including her Garden Spectrum Panels, Suncatchers, the Crazy Birds collection as well as Leaded Window Design and Restoration. Maxine also continues to paint using watercolours. Her paintings are individual and quirky views of the country and seaside life. These paintings are available as originals, limited edition prints and cards.
Her most popular creation is the range of freestanding Glass Spectrum Panels for the garden. These panels cast colourful rays of light in the summer, illuminating garden borders. They also brighten up any garden during the grey days of winter when there is little other colour around.
Maxine also takes on commissions working with the individual to ensue their vision is translated into reality. This includes creation of original design work. This is then translated into a handcrafted panel construction using traditional methods. Commissions of leaded windows can either be traditional and contemporary in nature. Maxine also restores old leaded light windows for pubs, houses and cottages in the local area.
Maxine fueled her passion for Art through a number of courses:
- BA (hons) Fine Art
- HNC Interior Design
- City & Guilds (Level 2) Furniture Production
Maxines’ major artistic influences include:
- Sir Terry Frost
- Patrick Heron
- Govinder Nazran
- Rebecca Lardner

Dorset Stained Glass has a purpose built studio that is used for the design and building of new Stained Glass Windows, Art and restorations, as well as facilitating stained glass courses.
The studio is equipped with a multiple stainless steel workbenches, kiln, glass saw and light boxes and tools.
It has a large window with natural light which allows work to be viewed on the light boxes or at the window.
The electronically-controlled kiln is used for firing paint, stain and enamels onto glass. There is a large stock of colored glass, lead and paints allowing any design to be started once a design is agreed.
The studio also has facilities to stretch and form lead and has full ventilation for health and safety especially when soldering.
The studio also has washing facilities and a dedicated cloakroom.
